One Room Challenge: Week 4~

Welcome to week 4 of my kitchen transformation for the One Room Challenge.

Not much in the way of progress photos to show today.  But the big news is ...painting of the cabinets starts today!  And I couldn't be more excited!
Rather than using Sherwin Williams Alabaster as I mentioned previously, I'm actually going to use a white paint color-matched to the existing white paint on the island.  I'm thinking this is going to be the best bet so that the white paint color is a true match.

Here's one more reminder of the before...

Next week I'll share a few sneak peeks...I can't wait for the big reveal...just 2 weeks away now!

One Room Challenge - Week 3~

This week has been an exciting one for my One Room Challenge kitchen transformation....

The tile is going in this week, and it's looking amazing.  I shared a photo on Instagram of the progress...but I'm saving any more photos for the big reveal because the tile is AMAZING and I want to wait so it will make a bigger impact for the reveal.  (insert evil laugh here)

I also ordered a rug for the kitchen this week from Joss and Main...

I'm really excited to add a rug to the space for a pop of color (and because I don't really love the flooring in my kitchen and replacing it is way outside of my budget.)

I'm getting so excited to see my new light and bright kitchen!  I hope you are too.

Only 3 weeks to go!!

One Room Challenge: Week 2~

Welcome to week 2 of the One Room Challenge.

This week I wanted to share a couple of the details of the plan for my kitchen.  In the before picture, you can see that my island is already painted white.

I found a good paint match to the white of the island in Sherwin Williams Alabaster (which just so happens to be one of Sherwin Williams colors of the year.)  The cabinets in the photo from Houzz below are painted Alabaster.

I would have really loved to switch out my granite counter tops for something lighter, but that is not in my budget.  So I decided to bring in the lighter tone by adding a back splash.  I fell in love with some Calacutta Marble 2x4 subway tiles....and got them for an amazing deal.

I am so excited to get going on this update.  I can't wait to share more as things start to take shape.

One Room Challenge: My Kitchen~

I am excited to be participating in the One Room Challenge link-up.

Over the next six weeks, I'm going to tackle a room which I have wanted to work on since I bought Hydeaway Cottage almost 2 years ago...My Kitchen!

Here's the way my kitchen looks right now.  I added the pendant lighting right after I moved in, but that's as far as the transformation went.

I tossed around the idea of painting the cabinets gray.  I even talked about it in this post.

But after much debate, I decided that gray cabinets wouldn't lighten up the kitchen the way I need them to.  My kitchen only has one small window, and the dark wood cabinets suck the light right out of the space.  I was afraid that gray cabinetry would do the same thing.  So I have decided to paint the perimeter cabinets to match the island.  Good old white!  I love a white kitchen!

My other plans for the space involve adding a back splash (just wait until you see it - I'm sooo excited!).  My budget for this makeover is very tight, so it remains to be seen whether or not I'll be able to change out the hardware and add the rug I'd like to add.

I'm really excited to see the difference this transformation will make in the feeling of my main floor - the entire space is one big open room - and I hope you'll join me for the next six weeks as I bring my plans to life.

Have a great day~
