Happy New Year~

2012 has drawn to a close and 2013 is making her debut!  I'm so excited for a new year and the possibility that it brings with it.

I hope you'll all join me this year as we embark on new decorating and DIY adventures!

Frugal Friday~

Oh my goodness you guys!  I was so caught up in having a leisurely holiday with my family, that I totally forgot about Frugal Friday yesterday.  That has never happened before (in over 150 Frugal Fridays!).  I guess you could say that I'm having a great holiday!  Lol!!

I  loved this post from last week's party on how to make Glitter Kool-Aid Playdough from The Chronicles of Home.  I'm thinking we might try this before our holiday vacation is up!

Oh, and just a note...if you Pin from this party, please do so from the ORIGINAL SOURCE. I love it when you all link up...and I want any Pinterest traffic from your posts to go to you. So please click through to the original post before you pin. THANKS!

Now it's your turn!

Favorite Posts and Projects of 2012~

Hello Lovelies!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas...full of joy and time spent with loved ones.

Today I'm going to share with you my favorite posts and projects from the past year.

I started the year off with a trip to New York to film a House Proud segment for the Nate Berkus show...the segment I filmed aired in May, and I wrote about it here.

I also had fun attending two great blogging conference this year:   SNAP and Haven!

Our Christmas House 2012~

I wanted to share a few photos of our Christmas decor this year (now that the season is almost over - better late than never, right?)

Things are very simple this year...which suits me just fine.  So please enjoy these little snippets of Christmas cheer from our home this year.

Frugal Friday~

Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Friday!

I can't believe it's December 20 already!  Are you all ready for the holidays?  Shopping done?  Gifts wrapped?  I'm almost there...good thing since there are precious few days left until Christmas.

For this week's Frugal Round-up, I'm featuring a few cute Christmas crafts...there's still time to pull these off if you're so inclined.

First up, I think these waterless Snow Globes shared by the DIY Dreamer are adorable, and would be super easy to recreate.

I LOVE sea glass!  So this sea-glass and driftwood Christmas tree craft from The Space Between Blog really spoke to me!  It's so cute and unexpected.

How to Make an Ornament Wreath (Revisited)~

As long as I'm sharing old Christmas Wreath tutorials, here's another great tutorial I posted originally on December 7, 2010.  Enjoy!

Okay, kids. Here it is. My tutorial on how to make an ornament wreath.

A Well-Read Christmas Wreath (Revisited)~

This tutorial was originally posted on The Shabby Nest on December 3, 2009.  It's an old-y, but a goody!  Enjoy!!

When I saw this page in the Pottery Barn catalog, my heart skipped a beat. Yes, the bedding is lovely, and the windows are pretty, but it was those wreaths that I fell in love with. Amazing!! So, of course, I decided I had to make me one of those "bookish" wreaths.

Photo from Pottery Barn

They were so easy to make too...

Frugal Friday~

For this week's Frugal Round-up I'm featuring three fun Christmas-related posts.

First up, I love these cute upcycled sweater pillows shared by In His Grip.

Next, Fern Creek Cottage shared her pretty and serene Christmas living room.  Just lovely.

Ivory Homes Gingerbread House and Christmas Link Party~

This post is sponsored by Ivory Homes.

Welcome to The Ivory Homes Gingerbread  House and Christmas Link Party!

Remember a while back when I posted about the Ivory Homes Gingerbread House Contest and Charity Event?  Well, Friday night, I had the opportunity to go spend some time with some fabulous Utah bloggers at a special blogger event to launch the contest.

As part of the event, we each got to build our own gingerbread houses.  It was so much fun!  Just imagine the crazy talent when you put a bunch of amazing bloggers together in a room, and arm them all the makings for beautiful gingerbread houses!

Here's how mind turned out...

Well today, five bloggers (including myself) are hosting a combined linky party to celebrate.  If you have a gingerbread house that you built for the Ivory Homes contest, we'd love to see it, so please link up!  But this party isn't just for gingerbread houses...if you have a great Christmas project or post, feel free to link it up as well!

I'm very concerned about the safety of my family, as I'm sure all of you are as well.   And making sure that we have working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are two of things that are foremost on  my mind when I think about keeping them safe.  So when I was contacted by Kidde to talk about their Worry-Free Smoke Detectors, I thought it was a good thing to share.

Frugal Friday~

Happy Thanksgiving! And welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Friday.

I have to be honest with you. I came *thisclose* to not getting this Frugal Friday post up because I was full of turkey and napping. Lol!

But I am glad you are here!

I will share my entire Frugal Round-up with you all next week, but for today, enjoy this pretty Thanksgiving Table shared last week by ZuHaus at Home.

Happy Thanksgiving~

Happy Thanksgiving!

I have so much to be thankful for on this beautiful Thanksgiving Day.
I could certainly never list all of my blessings.
That doesn't mean that my life is without its challenges.
It simply means that I know I am greatly blessed despite the challenges.
And sometimes I am greatly blessed because of the challenges.

But I am aware of each and every blessing...and I am grateful for them.
And I do not take them for granted.

I am especially thankful for my beautiful family...
They are my greatest treasure.

And I am thankful for you, my dear readers.
And I wish you each a wonderful day
filled with happiness and gratitude.

Working on the Loft Bedroom: Custom-fitting a Foam Mattress~

I've been working on the loft bedroom, and we're getting close to finishing it. All it needs now is to be styled! So there is a big reveal on the horizon, but today, I wanted to share with you all how I altered an existing foam mattress to fit the custom-sized "built-in" bed.

The mattress was previously used on the trundle bed in the boys' room.  And it is just foam (no wood or coils) which made this process fairly simple.  As you can see from the photo above, the mattress was several inches too long for the custom-built bed.

Here's the process I used to fix that little problem.

Sponsor Giveaway: The Vintage Pearl~

Happy Sunday Lovelies!

Today, I'm really excited to welcome one of my newest sponsors: The Vintage Pearl!

Frugal Friday~

Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Friday!

I'm excited to share my Frugal Round-up with you. So let's get to it...

First up, Dimples and Tangles shared her fabulous dining room host chairs - and she gives us a run down of how she created them.  I. Love. These.

I adore this glam master bedroom makeover from Design Dining and Diapers.  So pretty!  Love the touches of gold!

Just Keep Swimming~

Meet Dory.

The kids have wanted a pet for some time.  But since we are renters, having a pet of the four-legged variety isn't an option.  So when the Princess brought home a goldfish from school, I thought that it would be the perfect fit (provided it lasted through the first night - since most goldfish brought home from school/fairs etc. usually don't.)

When the goldfish was still with us a few days later, we moved her from the plastic container she had been in since she came home, to a real fish bowl.  And we gave her a name.  Dory.  Why Dory?  Well, I suggested it because Dory was my favorite character in Finding Nemo - and a fish - not a goldfish - but a fish. And the kids liked it, so it stuck.

Last Minute Halloween Craft: Paint Chip & Washi Tape Candy Corn Garland~

Nothing like putting things off until the last minute. I picked up these paint chips for.ev.ah ago because the colors reminded me of candy corn, and I got this *brilliant* idea that they would make a fun garland.  I found them again a couple of days ago, and hurried to make this cute little garland to share with you all.  I figure it's better late than never.  And if you like it, you can always file the idea away for next year, am I right?

Loft Bedroom: "Built-in" Bed Progress~

Just a little update for you today...last week I shared with you the design for the "built-in" bed that is going into the loft bedroom space for my oldest son.

Rough Sketch of What the Bed will Look Like

Well, on Saturday, my Papa delivered the bed! It wasn't completely finished...it still needed to be sanded, primed and painted - but I am more than happy to do that part since he so graciously built it for us.

Frugal Friday~

Welcome to this week's edition of Frugal Friday.

For today's Frugal Round-up, some cute and easy projects...

First up, I love this Leaf Bowl DIY shared by Better Organized Living.  What a great use for dollar store faux leaves!

I Have a Cold~

I have a rotten cold. You know, the kind that makes you want to curl up in bed and stay there all day?  So today I thought I'd share with you some bedroom inspiration.  I could curl up in any one of these beds, and I'm pretty sure my cold would feel better immediately.  (Ha!  If only it were that easy.)

If you love these rooms too, please click through to the original source before pinning.  THANKS!

Neutral and restful. I'm loving the sunburst mirrors above the headboard too.

"Built-in Bed" for the Loft Bedroom~

I mentioned in my post on Boys' Space Inspiration last week, that we are in the process of turning my loft home office into a bedroom for my oldest boy.  The loft is on the small-ish side, so we needed to think creatively in the area of space management.  After studying the space (and measuring it about 100 times) I decided that creating a "built-in" bed was the best option.

I am putting quotations around the term "built-in" because - as you know if you've read this blog before - we are living in a rental house.  So creating an actual built-in isn't really an option.  But creating a piece of furniture that will look built-in when it's completed... is.

In order to create this "built-in" bed, I sweet-talked my dad into helping me out.  And by that I mean, I drew up the plan, and he is building it.  :-)  The space isn't quite as wide as a standard twin size bed is long, so the piece had to be custom made, and my Papa is a furniture maker extraordinaire!

Here's a rough sketch I worked up of what I want the bed to look like when it's complete. The three squares in front will be storage drawers with decorative "x" detailing on them.
